The DPP Data Standard: GS1 and CIRPASS
The EU has not mandated a single technology platform for DPP β€” it mandates the data elements required and that a QR code on the product links to a URL where the DPP data is accessible. The emerging standard for DPP implementation uses: (1) GS1 Digital Link QR codes (encoding GTIN + serial/lot in standardised URL structure); (2) CIRPASS data schema (EU-funded DPP pilot defining data models for key product categories); (3) an accessible endpoint (your website or a DPP platform) that returns the DPP data when the QR code URL is scanned by regulators, consumers, or recyclers. This creates a decentralised DPP ecosystem rather than a single central database.
