Pinterest's Conversion API sends purchase events server-side — recovering conversion data lost to browser privacy restrictions and improving the signal quality driving your Pinterest campaign optimisation. We implement Pinterest CAPI alongside the Pinterest Tag for complete conversion coverage.
Pinterest Conversion API (CAPI) is a server-to-server integration that sends conversion events (purchases, add-to-cart, checkout) from your web server directly to Pinterest — bypassing browser-side limitations. It is Pinterest's equivalent of Meta CAPI and TikTok Events API.
Browser tracking (Pinterest Tag) loses 15–30% of conversion events to Safari ITP, ad blockers and iOS tracking restrictions. For Pinterest advertisers — particularly those in beauty, home and fashion categories where audiences skew toward iOS users — server-side tracking via CAPI recovers these lost signals.
We use Shopify's Order Created webhook to trigger Pinterest CAPI purchase events for every completed Shopify order. This provides 100% purchase event coverage regardless of the customer's browser or device settings.
Better conversion signal quality gives Pinterest's algorithm more accurate data for campaign optimisation — leading to improved audience targeting and lower CPAs over the 2–4 weeks following implementation.
De-duplication is achieved by sending a matching event_id with both the browser Tag event and the server CAPI event. Pinterest uses the event_id to identify and deduplicate matching events, counting only one conversion per transaction.
